The manufacturer who produces these kits on our behalf is an original equipment manufacturer for vehicle brands known to everyone. It is tested, the highest quality, as has been the standard for many years.
Since we as engine reconditioners were often confronted with the "unavailability" of pistons and piston rings for classic motorcycles, we have switched to having them exclusively reproduced in excesses (according to the original). We attach great importance to the origin. This includes the material, the compression and the diameter (although we sometimes offer additional repair sizes). However, we do not want to stand still technically and allow advances such as the MOS2 coating and generally 3-part oil control rings to flow into it.
In the case of multiple piston sets, the individual pistons are weighed to a minimum weight tolerance of less than 0.2 grams.
In connection with the installation clearance reduced by approx.
MOS2 is an excellent dry lubricant that is also mixed with oils as a lubricant improver and for emergency running properties. However, MOS2 can also be used as a high-pressure-resistant, pure dry lubricant.
Known from racing for decades, this type of coating is also used in series production by quality-conscious manufacturers and has been used for a long time in the commercial vehicle sector, where high mileage is required.
Uncoated pistons can also be coated subsequently. Here, however, you have to reckon with a price of around 40-60 euros per piece.
We always use 3-piece oil control rings for our piston sets or piston ring sets (unless otherwise specified). These have been standard for Japanese motorcycles since the 1970s and have been tried and tested to this day! The slightly higher level of attention that should be paid during assembly compared to 1-piece oil control rings or hose spring washers (often used by BMW) definitely pays off in the end. Since the joints of the two scraper rings of the 3-part oil scraper ring are mounted rotated by 180 degrees to each other, a labyrinth seal results, which is responsible for the low oil consumption of these rings. The third ring is a so-called expansion ring which ensures the preload for the two (thin) oil control rings.
